An Emerging Trend in Medical Uniforms

Monday, January 12, 2009 by Liza G

Open your Lydia’s catalog or browse all our new scrubs online and you’ll notice an emerging trend: bamboo. Bamboo scrubs are incredibly popular this season and with good reason; they’re soft, eco-friendly and come in a variety of styles.

Only a year or two ago it was difficult to find any type of clothing made out of bamboo. Now at Lydia’s Uniforms you can find bamboo medical uniforms (scrub tops and pants) from three different brands: White Cross, Landau and Iguana Med. Each brand’s bamboo scrubs are extremely different styles, but they’re all fashionable in their own way.

White Cross incorporates colors and designs from nature into its bamboo scrubs; I love the palette of blues, greens and tans! Landau uses bold hues and prints and even offers a few unique mandarin collar scrub tops. And the Iguana Med Bamboo Scrub Top is one of a kind because of its stylish crew neck and deep colors. Like I said, each collection is stylish in its own way; it’s all a matter of personal taste. What the scrubs do all have in common is that they're soft and comfortable thanks to the bamboo fabric.

So do any of you own bamboo scrubs (or any type of bamboo clothing)? What do you think about this new fabric trend, is it here to stay? Let me know your thoughts by leaving  a comment here.

A New Year, New Medical Scrubs

Wednesday, December 31, 2008 by Liza G

If you receive the Lydia’s Uniforms’ catalog you might have already discovered your new copy in the mailbox. The new winter catalog is filled with all your favorites, but also has many new items that were carefully selected by our merchandising team. They did a great job creating a wide selection of medical uniforms and hospital scrubs for you to choose from.

If you look at the catalog you’ll notice that many of the new items are made with New Cherokee Touchyour comfort in mind. For instance, the new Cherokee Touch is my absolute favorite collection and its name says it all. These scrub tops and pants are made from polyester and rayon and they’re super soft; I can only imagine how nice it would be to work in them. The comfort level combined with the stylish solid color combos and prints are what put them at the top of my list.

When flipping through the pages you’ll also come across new Dickies Performance Stretch scrubs and White Cross Bamboo medical uniforms. Of course that’s not all you’ll see, but those are just a few noteworthy collections that I would recommend checking out.

So if you haven’t opened the new catalog from Lydia’s Uniforms yet now is your chance. Browse it online here or order your own copy if you would like to receive one in the mail.

That’s all for today; I hope everyone has a wonderful New Year. Be safe and have fun as you celebrate the beginning of 2009!

Scrubs we Love!

Wednesday, July 23, 2008 by Liza G

Everyday our office here at Lydia's Uniforms is full of cute apparel, and I’m not just talking about the stylish uniforms. The five other members of my department have great taste and it always shows in their clothing. I inquired into these fashionable minds to see what they love about the new scrubs for fall and they told me which Cherokee Jacketstylish uniforms are their favorites.

Leesa:
My favorite product is the new Flex-i-bles print jacket.  The colors in the print are my favorite combination for this fall - simply spectacular!  Flex-i-bles has always been one of my favorite lines because of the knit spandex, roll down waistband on the pants.  The jacket has this same coordinating knit spandex inserted into the sides.  Ooohh...so comfy!

Lindsey:

I really like the new Koi Vanessa Prints. The scrubs have retro patterns with really trendy styling. I don’t think they look like scrub tops at all!

New Koi Scrubs

Rachel:
I like the new Bamboo line by Iguana Med. It’s super soft and very light, plus they’ve taken the sporty styling to a new level by adding some feminine details (i.e. gathered seams, colors match what’s hot for fall).

Amanda:

I would have to say Katherine Heigl Woodstock is my new favorite collection.  The colors are bright and pretty, and I love the hippie vibe that you get from these scrubs!

Nicole:
The Swirls and Whirls Contrast Sash Mock Wrap Scrub Top by Dickies is my favorite. I love the style with the tie back and especially love the color combination of aqua blue, off white and chocolate brown.  This top will go great with the Back Elastic Cargo Scrub Pants in Chocolate, which are an everyday favorite.

Personally, it’s hard for me to choose a favorite. There is definitely something to love about each of the choices above, whether it’s the fashion forward style (Katherine Heigl’s Woodstock line!) or an extra touch of comfort (Cherokee Flex-i-bles!). I think that in addition to all of the stylish uniforms shown above, the new Landau Medical scrubs are some of my favorites. This style top is flattering on different body types and I adore the bright prints and patterns.

So now that you've seen the designer medical scrubs that we love, which new scrub uniforms do you like best? Do you agree with one of us or is there a fabulous new item that we didn’t mention? Share your opinion; we would love to hear it!

What's New? Scrubs Made from Bamboo!

Tuesday, July 22, 2008 by Liza G

Today I want to tell you about some of my favorite new styles from the fall collection of scrub uniforms.  It was hard to choose what to talk about with so many new designer medical scrubs available. After some thought, I decided on a few one-of-a-kind new looks from Iguana Med. Everyone in the office, including me, seems to love these new pieces. A few weeks ago they were on a clothing rack of scrubs near my desk; everyone who walked by took notice of them. I think the combination of their soft feel and unique yet traditional styling made them stand out among all the scrub uniforms.

What makes these medical scrubs unique is that they’re all made partially from bamboo. I remember hearing about bamboo clothing awhile ago, but before these medical clothing uniforms arrived at Lydia’s Uniforms I had never actually seen any articles Iguana Med Scrubsthat were made from it. I’m glad I finally did because I absolutely love it.

So you might be wondering why bamboo for medical scrubs? Well, some research informed me that in addition to its soft feeling and high quality there are many reasons that bamboo fabric is an awesome new alternative. Some of my favorite reasons are: it requires a relatively low amount of energy and water to grow, it can be grown without pesticides and it is sustainable to harvest because of its fast growth. Sounds good to me!

These scrubs are  really similar to many of the cotton surgical scrubs that we carry, but the mixture of bamboo and cotton gives them a different feel. The medical uniforms have a very high end look, but they're also soft and lightweight which makes them seem extremely comfortable. I also appreciate the crew neck on this scrub top. It’s a bit different from the v-neck that many scrub uniforms have, but still has the look of traditional and professional scrubs.

Iguana Med also offers these two tees. They're great because in addition to being super soft they're also slightly stretchy and breathable. If I happen to purchase Iguana Med Scrubsnew workout wear anytime soon, and I just might have to, this short sleeve top will definitely be on my list of must-haves. Either top would probably work great under your favorite cotton surgical scrubs or by itself with a pair of scrub pants.

So if you happen to try out these new medical scrubs, leave a comment and let everyone know what you think! How do they compare to your other designer medical scrubs? And if I end up purchasing one of the shirts I’ll be sure to tell you how they hold up during a tiresome workout.

Scrubs that Work for Work or Play

Wednesday, June 4, 2008 by Liza G

Before working at Lydia's I never knew how many styles and options there are when it came to medical clothing uniforms. I can’t help but admire how fashion forward some of the scrubs are. At times I find myself looking through our designer medical scrubs and thinking, “I would wear that.”  And I don’t mean: I would wear that if I was a Registered Nurse that worked in the hospital next to my house. I mean: I would wear that on my day off when I ride my bike to the park or when I’m shopping downtown. So I went through our latest catalog and found some looks that are functional for work or play. Check them out and see what you think. Could I get away with wearing these tops, even though I’m not a nurse? I think so. Would you wear these styles on your day off? Let me know.

I think this shirt is more than appropriate for mothers as well as nurses. What mother hasn’t tended to a scraped knee or a bump on the head? (I’m not a mother or a nurse, so this shirt isn’t for me, but I bet there are lots of readers out there who fit into both categories!)

I love this hoodie. Everything from the waist details to the length to the colors is perfect. Can’t you see yourself throwing this over your favorite tee and jeans, or even as a swimsuit cover up?

Another great item to throw on for a casual look in the evenings or weekends. I hate to admit it, but I like this hoodie more than the ones I already own.

I can definitely picture myself wearing this with a pair of jeans. What do you think?

I’m sure once I take a better look at the items we have in for the fall catalog, I’ll find even more looks that are appropriate for work or play! In fact, Rachel’s already considering purchasing one of the new tops that’s made out of the bamboo fabric she mentioned in yesterday’s post. I think the two of us are on the same page when it comes to nursing scrubs!

Heads Up- Fall Scrubs are Almost Here

Tuesday, June 3, 2008 by Lydia's Employee

I’ve been hanging out in our photo studio, looking at our new fall selection.  Our merchandising team has done it again- they’ve handpicked some of the coolest, most stylish scrubs I’ve seen.  With each catalog, I think “This is it. Scrubs can’t get much better than this.”  Truth?  They can, and they do, and it continuously amazes me.  From hospital scrubs to lab coats to designer medical scrubs, there’s always a new twist.  I can’t get over it.  Perhaps that’s why I eagerly run to check out our new selection as soon as it’s picked.

As we begin proofing our catalog today, I am faced with the challenge of introducing our new scrub line to you on page 2.  Have you ever wondered who comes up with our catalog intro?  Yep, that’s me.  Here’s what I do: I check out our new collection, and pay particular attention to the brands that you tell me that you like.  Then, I think about how our scrubs reflect what’s going on in fashion that season and try to put myself in your shoes- in a nutshell, what do YOU need to know about our new line?

Our fall nursing scrubs line is so cool!  I’m seeing lots of different fabrics and textures, including bamboo (Yes!  I’ve been asking for this one), a premium easy-care poly (by one of your FAVORITE brands), and lots of cool retro prints.  I’m seeing the same stuff when I’m out shopping, so I know you’re going to be as excited as I am about the fashion elements of this line.

Stay tuned- I’m going to get you a sneak peek of some of these designer medical scrubs.  Also, stay tuned for Liza. She returns from her trip to California tomorrow, and I’m sure she’ll have lots to tell you.
