New Grey's Anatomy- On TV and at Lydia's!

Wednesday, September 23, 2009 by Liza Ollila

Grey’s Anatomy is back tomorrow with its season six premiere and as a faithful fan I know that I’ll be watching (after last season’s finale, how could I not?). Are there any other fans out there? What do you think will happen with George, Izzie and the rest of the crew in tomorrow night’s episode?

In addition to an all new season, there are also brand new Grey’s Anatomy uniforms online at Lydia’s (that’s right, one more thing to get excited about). The medical uniforms are perfect if you love the show, but I would recommend them even if you don’t watch it; they’re so soft and have such a great fit that you can’t go wrong.

So what do you think? Will you be watching season six and checking out the new Barco Grey’s Anatomy Scrubs? If you do either, share your thoughts here!

Congrats to Our Contest Winner

Tuesday, August 4, 2009 by Liza Ollila
My congrats go out to Shelly, the latest winner of our monthly Editor @ Large contest. Shelly entered the contest on Facebook and left the following comment about what makes her job more interesting than reality t.v.

I work as a Housekeeper at a hospital. Reality shows seem to be about drama & as a hospital housekeeper I see PLENTY of this on a daily basis not only within my department but throughout the whole hospital. My job is more interesting than a show because I am there in the "thick" of the events & it is all unfolding before my eyes..LIVE! I don't have to watch what happens through a t.v. screen, I get the sights, sounds and let’s not forget the smells! What makes my job great is that I get to be there in the 1st person sense of it all & that includes the feelings/emotions. I can't begin to say how many insensitive, strange, hilarious and my favorite… kind people I have come in contact with through my job! My job IS a reality show & I am lucky enough to be in the cast!

Thanks for entering Shelly, I loved hearing about your job and I hope you enjoy your $50 gift certificate to Lydia’s.

For everyone else who would like to win new medical scrubs, I have good news. The latest monthly contest is posted here and in addition to that we are also running a photo contest for the next week. So enter both contests and you might be getting your own Lydia’s gift certificate very soon. Good luck!

stranded on a 35 square mile island

I enjoy the drama that is played out on T.V. and at times picture my self working in a grand hospital. Then I snap back to reallity, I work in a 35 bed hosptial where the experience is limited and I am slowly loosing all my skills. Sometime I say "I'm leaving" but I just can't its my home and we are already loosing all of our nurses to big countries like the U.S. and the U.K. Here I am a jack of all trades master of none. I am going to try give you a picture of this place. It's one long ward, it's separated in cubicles male and female. There is no medical or surgical wards ect. everyone is in one big pot. On the female side there's paeds. and matty. Even thou the place is small you go home mentally drained. On a average day I have at the max 16 pts. with limited staff one RN, one RN midwife, one nursing assistant. when the midwife get a woman in labour its the one RN and assistant to manage the 16 pts. Out of the 16, 4 are critical needing ICU care. I would have all medication to serve and still monitor the critical pts as ordered. Then there is still doctors rounds, with all appearing at the same time and all wanting their orders carried out STAT. Now there is still feeding of patients, turing of the medical bed patients, the surgical ones that have dressings to be done. ( lets not forget the midwife who is now deliverying a baby by herself another disaster waiting to happen.Yes the OBGYN doesn't deliver babies here, all they do are the CS). There is never an orderly around so all the heavy lifting is mine. I work whole shifts without a break because there is never enough staff to relief me. To make a long story short even thou the place is small it is stressfull having to think medical, surgical, peads, ICU and all that comes with illness in one shift. On top of the work load the treatment of the nurses by other staff and the public is one I would not wish on my worst enemy. Many days I cry before I go to work and I cry when I finish. I am thinking about leaving the profession but I love being a Nurse.

I have been a pediatric nurse for the past 26 years and there is nothing that compares to the drama I see at work. My patients, whether newborn or young adult are all entertaining. When I take care of them, I treat them as if they are a member of my own family. I don't get involved in the emotional drama but I will do everything to assure that I am an advocate for my patient and his or her family. Patient safety is a priority too and I am always looking out for my patients best interest and what is the safest practice. Nursing is something that I have always wanted to do from the time I was a little girl in kindergarten and have never regretted it. It is truly a work of heart.

Under the Baby's Bassinet

Sunday, June 14, 2009 by Nurses in Action
Top medical shows have nothing on us! As managers revolve in and out of the doors, babies continue to be born. We have the male secretary/tech (affectionately known as the "man-a-tary" to us) who can schmooze the phone off the hook. We have the compassionate, ultra-professional nurse who only hugs at Christmas and funerals (and then only if forced into it). We have the married, divorced and single parents. We have colleagues with the saddest, hardest, headline-making personal lives that terminally wound our hearts and remind us to be thankful everyday. We complain, criticize and lunch together. We secretly decide which physician or pharmacist would be our dream "back up" if our husbands were suddenly abducted by aliens. We wrangle for assignments are are thoroughly frustrated, frustrating and entertaining. We fight, bicker and insult each other and then we come together as a united front when the chips are down and move in tandem to save lives, fix the broken and console the mourning. We are what reality t.v. can only hope to imagine. We are a tight unit that is run by the greatest people never to receive an award.

Lab Coats for Every Style

Wednesday, March 25, 2009 by Liza Ollila
Whether you like to finish off your medical uniform with a traditional, white lab coat or you prefer medical coats that are a bit different from the norm, I bet that Lydia’s has something that suits your personal taste. I browsed our selection of lab coats to bring you my recommendations for white, colorful, zip-up and trendy additions to your work wardrobe.

Want to go the traditional route? Try one of these two style coats; both have a crisp, professional look that would work with any medical scrubs. The left is a Barco Medical Uniforms lab coat, which received great customer reviews. And on the right is an embroidered four pocket lab coat that’s slightly shorter in length than the first one and also has a collar.

Prefer some color? Try one of these three lab coats that are everything but traditional white. On the left is an Urbane Scrubs short jacket in Pearl Pink; it also comes in 7 other colors (talk about variety!). In the middle is an L.A. Rose Contrast Stitch lab coat in Black. And on the left is a Unisex lab coat in blue.

Or are you looking for that stylish piece to complete your medical uniform? Try one of these two pieces that are unique and fashionable while still getting the job done. On the left is a zip-up lab coat by Urbane. And on the right is a Peaches MedCouture Women’s Lab Coat.

So what’s your favorite lab coat look, traditional or trend setting? Browse our whole collection and don’t forget to write reviews of your personal faves.

Grey's Anatomy Uniforms- Who wears them best?

Thursday, November 20, 2008 by Liza Ollila

Season Five of Grey’s Anatomy is in full swing and I’ve been trying to keep up with all the new developments and the never ending drama (what’s up with Izzie and Grey's Anatomy V-Neck Scrub TopDenny?!). Since I know that many of you have been watching since September, I thought I would ask what you think of the cast members in their scrubs. Who rocks their medical uniform and who doesn’t? Or do you think that you and your co-workers look better and, of course, more like real medical professionals than anyone on that show when you throw on your Grey’s Anatomy Uniforms. I noticed that these hospital scrubs have 5 star reviews on the site and I think maybe it’s because you do look better than the cast in them.

So tell me what you think about the show, the medical uniforms and whatever else is on your mind! Leave a comment here

Just In- New Barco Medical Uniforms

Wednesday, November 5, 2008 by Liza Ollila

Want something new to freshen up your medical uniforms? If so, you’re visiting Lydia’s Uniforms at the right time. Brand new Barco medical scrubs, the Classic Cord Collection, have just arrived in our warehouse; as of this week they’re available on the web site. What I love most about these designer medical scrubs is their combination of comfort and style. After I felt how soft they were I had a whole new outlook on corduroy. It’s so subtle in these apparel scrubs, yet it still enhances their feel and style.  Plus I love the tiny details like the little buttons on the tops and pants. Check out this video and if you like what you see, head to LydiasUniforms.com and find these new Barco medical uniforms in your size and color.

Katherine Heigl Collection gets 2 Thumbs Up from Lydia's Employee

Tuesday, October 21, 2008 by Liza Ollila

Katherine Heigl L.A. by Peaches French Terry Zip Front Hoodie
Melissa is an employee here at Lydia’s Uniforms and the other day I spotted her wearing this zip front hoodie from Katherine Heigl’s LA Collection. Come to find out, Melissa doesn’t own just this Katherine Heigl top, but three more tops as well! Here’s her explanation:

“I recently became semi-obsessed with the Katherine Heigl line because they are very well made and long-lasting while still being very comfortable.  I wear plus sizes so I was concerned that it would not be a flattering line, Katherine Heigl isn’t exactly a plus sizes woman:), but I was wrong!  I get so many compliments whenever I wear it, inside and outside of work.  Other employees recognize the Katherine Heigl items I wear right away and comment on how good it looks in person.  I have since seen a few other employees purchase some as well.  We just have to be careful not to wear them on the same day!” - Melissa, Web Customer Support Supervisor

I guess Melissa is proof that some of these pieces are so stylish that they can be worn outside of the hospital or clinic. Do any of you own clothes from Lydia’s Uniforms that you wear as part of your regular wardrobe and not as part of your medical uniform? If so, what are they?

Be Bold

Tuesday, October 14, 2008 by Liza Ollila

I was browsing through the entries to the Editor @ Large Contest today and I was surprised to see how many of you expressed that you’re allowed wear medical scrubs with prints and patterns on them. Those of you who are allowed to wear prints seemed thrilled about it. And it sounds like your patients love them too. So if you’re allowed to wear prints, why not go all out with bold, bright patterns?

For today I compiled pictures of some of my favorite bold, bright prints. Put on one of these scrub tops and see if you can get a smile out of your patients and co-workers. And if you have your own favorite print scrubs, send in a picture of you showing them off and I’ll feature it on the blog.

Colors of Fall are Here

Monday, September 29, 2008 by Liza Ollila

The colors of fall are here. I spent a few hours in my car driving yesterday and I saw one tree after another with yellows, oranges, browns and reds emerging from the branches; I realized that autumn is upon us. The rich colors of fall are perfect on the trees, but also perfect for apparel. All the clothing web sites I frequently visit are featuring these deep colors on their home pages and I think they have the right idea.

On September 16th I posted a blog about Halloween print scrubs. In that post I mentioned that a great alternative to print apparel scrubs are medical uniforms in fall colors. I didn’t give you any examples of what Lydia’s offers in those colors, so today I’m going to do that. Here are my picks for stylish scrubs in this season’s best colors.

Scrub tops from left to right: Dickies Contrast Mock Wrap Top in Mandarin, Katherine Heigl Woodstock Drawstring Mock Wrap Top in Cafe, Barco Grey’s Anatomy Scrubs Junior Fit V-Neck Top in Merlot

Scrub pants from left to right: Dickies Everyday Ladies’ Flare Leg Pants in Mandarin, Katherine Heigl Woodstock Low Rise Flare Leg Pants in Cafe, Barco Grey’s Anatomy Scrubs Junior Fit Pants in Merlot

What fall colors do you like to incorporate into your wardrobe for work?

How do You Stay Cool?

Wednesday, September 24, 2008 by Liza Ollila

It seems like a popular trend in workout wear is fabric that wicks moisture away from the body. I own a few tops like this and they really are perfect for exercising. The trend also seems to have caught on in the healthcare industry with many professionals wearing moisture wicking tees under their apparel scrubs- an understandable trend for a group of professionals who are known for constantly being on the go. Long Sleeve Tee

When I was checking out the new designer medical scrubs by Katherine Heigl I discovered that the Performance Collection is entirely made from moisture wicking fabric. They’ve got a jacket, scrubs and a long sleeve tee that are all designed specifically to keep you cool. I’m actually surprised that this is the first collection of nursing scrubs like this that I’ve seen.

So what do you think about this trend? Do you already own moisture wicking tops or bottoms as part of your medical uniforms and if so which brands or items do you like best? The brand I’m most familiar with in this category would be Under Armour. I know it’s extremely popular for exercise wear, but does anyone wear it for work? I’m interested to hear your thoughts, so leave a comment!

Designer Style to Scrub Style

Tuesday, September 23, 2008 by Liza Ollila

The new Performance Collection by Katherine Heigl inspired me to do a Designer Style to Scrub Style post showcasing how similar these designer medical scrubs are to designer workout wear. The great thing about these stylish uniforms is that they’re also just as flexible, comfortable and lightweight as your favorite workout wear.

Take a look at how similar these pieces are:

Designer Style: Nike    Scrub Style: Katherine
Modern Fit Jacket        Heigl Zip Front Hoodie
Katherine Heigl Zip Front Hoodie
This jacket is perfect to wear at work or on your way to and from. The bright color is an awesome way to brighten up an outfit, but it’s also available in a black if you’re looking for a jacket you can wear with virtually any apparel scrubs. And seeing how it’s so similar to this Nike Jacket, nobody even has to know that it’s part of your medical uniform.

Designer Style: Bebe        Scrub Style: Katherine
½ Zip Racerback Tank      Heigl Zip Front Top
Katherine Heigl Performance by Peaches Zip Front Scrub TOp
This affordable nursing scrubs top borrows its basic elements of style from a trendy workout tank and transforms those elements into a functional and fashionable medical scrubs top.

Designer Style: Fit      Scrub Style: Katherine
Couture Rio Pants      Heigl Yoga Scrub Pants
http://www.lydiasuniforms.com/scrubs/products.asp?sku=5707KH&cat=272311&t=Scrubs_-_Katherine_Heigl_Performance_by_Peaches_Yoga_Scrub_Pant_-_Web_Only
These pants both offer a contrasting, colorful waist band, flare leg styling and extra comfort. The only difference is that one pair is for the gym and the other pair is for work.

So what do you think of this new Performance Collection from Katherine Heigl? Do you love all the athletic inspiration or do you prefer more traditional uniform scrubs. What are your thoughts?

New Sporty Scrubs just Arrived

Thursday, September 11, 2008 by Liza Ollila

Yoga Scrub PantsToday we introduced a new line of Katherine Heigl Scrubs to LydiasUniforms.com. I could have waited ‘til tomorrow to tell you about them, but I’m really excited about the sporty style and sleek look and wanted to share them with you. My favorite piece from the Performance Collection is the yoga scrub pants; they look so comfy! Actually, all the pieces look comfy, but those standout to me the most. A few features that make this line unique are: the performance fabric which has a bit of stretch and an anti-static finish, the slim fits, mesh lined pockets and the hidden mp3 player pockets. Overall I would say the attention to detail and the performance geared style are what make them so appealing. So now that you know what I think about them stop reading and go see for yourself.
