Each month there will be a different topic, so feel free to enter every month to increase your chances of winning. For November, I want to hear what you really think about hospital dramas like Grey’s Anatomy, ER, Mercy, etc. Leave a comment and tell me which of these shows you can’t get enough of and why. Or if you can’t stand these shows, what are your reasons? Are there medical inaccuracies that drive you crazy? Do the stories seem unrealistic to you? Whether you love these shows or hate them, I want to hear what you (actual medical professionals) think, so leave your comment now. I believe that most medical dramas on TV are completely unrealistic. I am an RN, and I cannot believe that the medical world is portrayed in the ways it is sometimes! For example, in "Gray's Anatomy," the doctors are portrayed as basically running the hospital, or should I say the surgeons. There are no other doctors around, when in reality, it's the support staff like nurses, aides, techs, etc who are there with the patients the majority of the time. And when patients are as sick as they are in this show, they require more than just surgeons. It's absurd!

I think medical dramas on TV are mostly about relationships between staff, and do not focus as much on the medical side.

I love the medical shows ! Greys Anatomy is my all time favorite !! I also loved ER, and was bummed went it went off the air !!! The new shows Trauma and Mercy are also getting me hooked !!

I think medical dramas on tv are soooo far fetched compared to what you actually see in real life. Additionally, there's too much emphasis on the characters' love lives and "skeletons in the closet". They are entertaining though!

I think these shows are perform for what they are intended for. Entertainment. They don't contain realistic situations, and they probably shouldn't be taken seriously, because they are design for "pure entertainment".

I thinkmedical shows touch on that bad things happen and there is people who care and don't! the new show "Three Rivers" is great! Being is the greatest give a person can give in life and death.

As a new nurse (graduated & licensed 2009), medical shows on TV were more "entertaining" before personally entering the medical arena. Before, I just watched the characters' relationships (& all the drama!). As a nursing student, it was fun to watch and say "oh, that term means..." and "speaking of intubating, did you know that..."--- my boyfriend hated watching these shows with me at this point! The more advanced my nursing knowledge, the quicker I was to "catch" the inaccuracies, which made me happy to know that I was learning & retaining all of it. BTW, House is my fave to watch. During school, I considered the 1 hr/wk watching House as "leisurely study time" while I tried to pick the show apart... but I just like watching it anyways for the storylines and Dr. House's sarcasm. Haven't seen a TV show yet that truly depicts the real art, work, and care of good nurses. But hey, that's why they're called "dramas" and have scripts... to get viewers and ratings.
