Spring is finally here; and the 3 inches of snow we still have on the ground here in the midwest is deceiving, but Spring officially began March 20th. Not only does this mean we can start wearing short sleeve shirts and shorts soon, but we can also wear all the fun bright prints we all love so much.
Lydia’s went all out for Spring with more than 23 new bright print tops. We have something for everyone this season including bright flower prints like our Scrub Works 100% Cotton Fresh Flowers Mock Wrap Scrub, Peaches Med Couture Floral Palette Brights, Carla Scrub Top and the Koi 100% Cotton Heatwave Willow Mock Wrap Scrub Top. The Heatwear Willow Mock Wrap Scrubs Top is my personal favorite with its bright green, orange and pink flowers! We also have prints with butterflies, lady bugs, stars and of course flip flops for those of us ready for summer.
These are just a few of my favorite Spring '13 print tops, what are some of yours?

A few staple uniform colors are your go-to Browns, Blacks, Whites and Navys. You can't go wrong when wearing these simple but stunning colors. Especially when pairing them with your favorite print top!
Black has been, and will always be, a favorite color in practically everyone’s wardrobe... We all end up using it at some point in time! Black scrub pants make for a great foundation to many medical professional’s uniforms. I love the pairing of our White Cross 3-2-1 Wild And Free Crossover Scrub Top and our White Cross 3-2-1 Flare Leg Scrub Pant In Black.
Brown is another must-have color! So many different colors and prints go well with Brown, even Black which I think it is forgotten by many. While I was flipping through our new Fall 2012 catalog I noticed a really fun Print top, the White Cross 100% Cotton Wild Stripe Scoop Neck Scrub Top which can easily be paired with our White Cross Six Pocket Flare Leg Scrub Pants in Espresso.
White is one color that some shy away from. Possibly because of the age old rule “You Can't Wear White After Labor Day”. But White is a really fun color to brighten up with just about everything and it just always looks crisp and fresh! Another great thing about White is that pretty much every brand has the same shade so you can mix and match without the hassle of trying to make sure you select a top and pant from the same brand. The White outfit I paired has a range of brands including our Grey's Anatomy by Barco Heart Line Lab Coat over top of our Med Couture by Peaches Hidden Accents Contrast Mock Wrap Scrub Top. I would pair this outfit up with a all-time customer favorite the Koi Lindsey Scrub Pant in White.
Last but not least is the color Navy, a great color to wear at anytime and for anything! You can easily pair it with a variety of colors or wear it as a full set. I personally like the all Navy look with a hint of lime green! Our new IguanaMed Dual Swirl Scrub Top and IguanaMed Legend Cargo Scrub Pant both have the small Lime Green logo along with a fun green drawstring on the pants.
These are just a few of my go-to solid colors, I would love to hear what yours are!

Today is Earth Day 2012 - 42nd anniversary. I started thinking about what type of community service I would like to do; while I was thinking it dawned on me that I should not only be planning for Earth Day, but trying to come up with ways to help clean up our environment and be a bit “Greener” on a daily basis. Things like riding my bike or walking to grocery store, turning off the light when I leave a room, picking up garbage I find on the ground and a few more commonly used ideas came to mind right away. A while later I realized these are all great things for someone who has extra time on their hands; but at the moment is not me! I did a little research and came across a couple things that no matter how busy I am, I can do to help out and I thought I would share with you.
One fantastic idea is to use reusable tote bags instead of plastic bags when grocery shopping or carrying things for your workday. Lydia's Uniforms has quite a few reusable totes including our Pink Rocks tote bag by Nurse Mates and for a more traditional tote we have our Essential Tote Bag that comes in 7 fabulous colors.
Another great idea is buying items made from recycled material. A prefect example of this would be our Tencel line by Landau, we carry two sets of scrub bottoms and the different scrub tops that are made with 45% recycled polyester. These items are not only great easy way to help our environment but they also feel like you’re wearing silk!
These are only two small ways I found that we can use to improve the amount of pollution we create on a daily basis without interrupting a busy schedule. I would love to hear more, so please feel free to leave me a comment!

This weekend, we put up our holiday tree. Each year, I love taking all the ornaments out of the boxes and thinking about all the memories associated with each one. This year, there was a particular ornament that seemed very special-it was a gift from my former supervisor at the library at Ball State University. She had given me a Christmas ornament. It was a young looking brunette nurse wearing green scrubs with a clipboard in her hand. On the left pocket of the scrub top, she had written my last name in very small letters, and on the clipboard, it read "Merry Christmas 2001." She gave me this ornament as a gift for graduating nursing school, as I was a December grad. As I unwrapped more ornaments, I found even more nurse ornaments given to me by friends and family that I still treasure every year.
What other things make great gifts for nurses? Maybe you have co-workers or staff you are looking to buy for this season. Here are my suggestions:
- Unscented, but very moisturizing hand soap. Nurses wash their hands what seems like hundreds of times a day, and in the winter, their skin gets very dried out. What has worked for me are hand creams that contain hemp as an ingredient, it really seems to be the only thing to soften my hands and protect them.
- I have said how much I love these before, but a nice pair or two or support socks. Lydia's stocks the Nurse Mates compression stockings. I just bought myself two pairs on Cyber Monday and I just took them off after wearing them all day long. I wanted to even wear them to bed, but I decided to let my feet be free for a while.
- An extra pair of hemostats. There are so many times during they workday when I wish I had my own set. Whether it's to untwist some tight IV tubing or something else, they really come in handy and are sometimes hard to come by.
- A nice flashlight. Again, another tool that is hard to come by on the nursing unit but it is very handy. Especially when anchoring indwelling catheters or working night shift. Maybe splurge and get a metal one that can be engraved, so someone else doesn't run off with it.
- Massage gift certificates. Nurses are on their feet anywhere from 8-16 hours a day. When we come home, we're sore. And let's face it, nurses deserve it.
So sure, this is not an exhaustive list, but hopefully it will get you started. Do you have any great suggestions? Feel free to post, or post about the most thoughtful nurse gift you've ever received.

My name is Starla-Jill Palso, I am a full time RN in the Emergency Observation department. When Spring arrives, I LOVE to Garden. Flowers, vegetables, herbs and trees. My gardens have special visitors; lil brown Bunnies! While most gardeners dislike bunnies, I plant special treats for them to snack on. I also buy them some wild rabit feed at the farm store. The included photo is one of my bunnies in the plush green grass of my yard. Another favorite green activity of mine is drying my laundry in the sunshine. The bunnies are out playing while I hang my linens and clothes (and scrubs from Lydias of course) in the sunshine. Nothing smells more fresh than outdoor dried laundry, and it saves running the drier and wasting energy. I encourage everyone to garden and feed the wildlife as well. Life is a garden, dig it!

LA Rose has an exclusive line called bgreen that has my attention! The items are made in the USA with organically grown cotton. Uniforms made with cotton have benefits such as comfort and strength. They are also made using recycled polyester from bottles and textiles. All of these efforts reflect LA Rose's desire to reduce their climate impact and minimize harm to people and the planet.
The bgreen by L.A. Rose Crewneck Scrub Top is one of my favorites. I love the small details that give this top a more flattering fit and unique look!
*Bonus: LA Rose bgreen line is currently 40% off, prices as low as $12.59! Sale ends 11/22/10 at midnight EST.
The Crewneck top features a round neckline, front seams with subtle shirring, two patch pockets, set-in sleeves, side slits. It is 26 1/2" in length and made with 50% organic cotton/50% recycled polyester.
Here is a helpful review from our customer Lola from Houston, Texas:
I splurged on these scrubs because I like to be extra comfy at work. Most of the 'Green' clothing I own meets my comfort quotient. These scrubs didn't disappoint. I am so glad to have them in my wardrobe.Share with us what steps have you made to lessen your impact on our environment?

Here in the Call Center we have been anxiously awaiting the arrival of our Fall Catalog. We love to get the first look at the new products and brands we can offer our customers. It finally arrived and I have picked out my top five favorite uniforms and I would love to share them with you!!
1) Koi Kathryn Top Healing love
This top by Koi Uniforms is so adorable and cozy! This 100% cotton scrub top would be a great pick this Fall to wear during Breast Cancer Awareness month in October. We are also donating proceeds from this top to the Susan G. Komen Foundation. What a great way to give money to a good cause!!
2) Cherokee Flexibles Round Neck Scrub Top
All of the Flexibles line by Cherokee is super comfortable, but this style is one of my new favorites. The neckline is very feminine and will look great with all different color scoop neck tees underneath when it gets chilly outside. It also comes in stylish color choices. Check out the Bay Leaf and the Cinnibar colors, those are the perfect tones for the Fall season.
3) Wink Charlie Five Pocket Scrub top
This is a new collection that we brought on this Fall. These scrubs have such a clean and fun look to them at an incredible price. These unique scrubs feature a hidden pocket, insert for scissors and a badge holder. My favorite color combinations the Green Apple/Hunter Green or the Malibu/Navy. These would be great for group orders.
4) Sanita Claire Professional Clog
These shoes are comfortable for those long shifts because the sole carries heat and moisture away from your feet. Also, if you have plans after work, these will look great both in and out of the office!
5) B Green Short Sleeve Tee
This top is super soft and so cute with the screen-printed butterflies. This new line is made from organic cotton and recycled polyester (the tee is 100% cotton) and definitely adds some personality to your work wardrobe!
I would love to hear what your top five favorite items from Lydia's are! Leave a comment here

Love this top and matching pant. Color are great, fit is great. All around great scrub top!!
Great Pants! Absolutely love these pants (and matching top). The navy and apple are a refreshing combo, especially with the apple green long sleeve tee underneath! -Lisa, CA
