Editor @ Large- Your Chance to Score a $50 Gift Certificate to Lydia’s

Monday, January 5, 2009 by Liza Ollila

Happy New Year everyone! Start 2009 off right; enter for your chance to win a $50 gift certificate to Lydia’s Uniforms.

Speak your mind and win a spot as guest editor at Lydia’s Uniforms. If you win you get a $50 gift certificate to spend on new medical uniforms and your winning entry will be featured on our blog! Each month there will be a different topic, so feel free to enter every month to increase your chances of winning. We’re running the contest wherever you connect with Lydia’s, whether it’s our blog, MySpace or Facebook.

For January, we want to hear more about your dress code. Many offices and hospitals have color guidelines for their employees; for example all Registered Nurses wear ceil blue, all X-Ray Techs wear maroon, etc. Other facilities have no colors guidelines at all and even allow their employees to wear prints! Which sounds more like your place of employment? Do you work in a hospital or facility that requires each department to wear a different color? If so, what are the guidelines and what do you think of them? And how do your patients feel about it? Do they seem to find it helpful when each department is outfitted in certain colors? Tell us what you think. Rant and rave about the color specific dress code (or lack of) at your work and see what others are wearing at their job and in their departments. And don’t forget, doing so will enter you for a chance to win free medical scrubs from Lydia’s!

Leave your comment here!

The important details (there aren’t too many):
-Comments must be under 200 words.
-The contest will begin on the 1st of each month and end at 11:59 p.m. on the last day of the month
-One winner will be chosen from all of the comments we receive.

P.S. Check back later this week to find out who won December’s Editor @ Large Contest!

I have been looking for the 2 pocket hip length Nursing Vest in different colors. I can find white but need and want Khaki or Purple. I found one company that will make these for me but want $32.00 each. I find that a little pricey. Please start making these, very popular with the Hospice Agency.

I work at a care center/ nursing home. We are allowed to wear prints or solids, as long as they are scrubs. I find this to be totally awesome as their are so many different types of prints to be found! Fridays are casual dress and we get to wear jeans if we wish, but I wear a scrub top because of the pockets. I am in housekeeping and always keep a small notebook, keys, pen, and such in my pockets. So I need alot of pockets! The scrubs I bought from you are comfortable to wear.

I am a senior resident in the Emergency Department of a large urban public hospital. We have no specified dress code, yet most of my colleagues have adhered to an unspoken tradition of wearing either the scrubs provided to us from the hospital or solid navy or black traditional unisex scrubs almost always embroidered with their title. The amusing thing is that the hospital scrubs are color-coded depending on size. Therefore, when these are worn everyone knows exactly what size you are wearing. The XL scrubs, the size many of the males wear, are pink. Despite my adherence to said tradition and often adding a lab coat, I had a difficult time conveying my role as the physician to patients. It is clear that my sex will always foreshadow any other role-identifying label including nametag, lab coat and uniform. Having recognized this fact, I have chosen to break tradition and become much more creative with my uniforms. I have now started wearing styles that are more fashionable and fun. The amazing thing is I now connect better with patients and gain their trust much more easily despite the new scrubs.

I have 2 jobs, one as a Phlebotomist and one as a Dental Assistant...I'm trying to decide what I want to be when I grow up! I wear scrubs all the time and your selection is wonderful! I especially like the 'beachy' look. I believe it helps to cheer up the patients when they see me looking cheerful. Great scrubs and smile on your face can make a blood draw/dental visit a more pleasant experience.

I work in a pediatric dental office and our dress code is that we all wear matching scrubs. On Mondays we wear pink tinkerbell tooth fairy scrubs, on Tuesdays we wear looney tunes characters brushing teeth, on Wednesdays we wear tooth fairies or a scrub that goes with the season (halloween and christmas), and on Thursdays we all wear cartoon characters of our choice. We love our scrubs because they are all kid friendly and comfortable. Our patients also like our uniforms, we are constantly getting comments from patients about how much they like that character or how funny the scrubs are. Parents like them because we all match and look very professional.

I work in a nursing home. As a CNA you have to wear ceil blue pants and top Or you are even allowed to wear a MATCHING print top. And on Wednesdays if we pay a dollar we can wear what we want and on Friday. But as a CNA I love to look professional so i always wear a fun color scrubs like neon pinks, purples, etc, which are easy to find from you. I love this tradition and most of my coworkers do to. Thanks so much for having a wonderful selection so i can find matching fun prints!

As a nursing student we are required to wear whit on clinical days. Days that we are in class we can wear whatever is comfortable but must cover completely whne stretching and bending.

Being a medical assistant for two years has been fun specially when wearing different kind of prints of scrubs everyday. I believe that by wearing different styles of scrubs gives people who you are. I love wearing scrubs with cartoon character prints because it's just seems refreshing and most scrubs are very comfortable when working.

I work in an acute care setting for a local hospital. Our nurses--RNs and LPNs--both must wear white, unless in the ED, then it's royal blue. Our whites may have trims or embroidery, but must remain MOSTLY WHITE. This makes shopping difficult to say the least. We like great scrubs with a little sass and style, but usually get stuck wearing simple white scrubs. You have a great selection of "mostly whites." I wish more companies, such as Iguana Med, Izzy, etc, which offer more trendy-styled scrubs, would include whites in their collections. Maybe a pleat or cut out with a vivid color or a colorful trim. While I think that nurses wearing whites do look very professional, it is very difficult to keep looking fresh and clean, especially in my area where hard water is common.

I work in a rural hospital. We are allowed to wear prints and colors of our choice. I love to be able to shop different places looking for the unique print that few (if any) other people have. It gives me the chance to express my personality and to "stand" out a bit. My favorite scrubs are the ones that stretch. My job requires a lot of bending, pulling, lifting and movement. I only wish scrubs sites and catalogs would remember that Nurses are not the only ones who wear scrubs.

For 20 years I have watched the uniform policies come and go. 'Wear Emerald', 'Never mind... just be professional', 'Wear black'(well you made us pick a color,so we picked them all!).Then it was, 'Clip on this badge and wear whatever you want'. It will change again. Hope I am still around to see the changes.

I work on the Oncology floor at a 200 bed hospital. Through out the whole hospital nurses wear navy and white. They are very strict on the those colors in that no other accent color can be with that. I think those colors look professional but it is very hard to find uniforms with only those colors. All prints seems to have another color with them. Techs wear green, environmental services wear red, transporters wear kaki. I wish more companies would make white uniforms with white on white prints. I must say your catalog has more than any other I have looked at. Need more choices in jackets though. I just want to look a little different instead of wearing the same old plain like everyone else.

I work in a clinic that has 2 different divisions to it. I am the only one in the clinic that can wear any type of scrubs that I want. My co-workers have to wear uniforms regardless if they work in the clerical area or the clinic. I constantly get asked why do I not have to wear a uniform like they do. I love it because I can wear my favorite cartoon prints and I love being unique

after graduating from school, the hospital where i am now a nurse does not allow white scrubs. of course that was all i had. we are allowed to wear any color we like, but since i had nothing to wear i have enjoyed choosing colored scrubs. i only like solids, i feel the scrubs with prints look cheap & unprofessional on me (just my crazy feeling - no offense to those who wear them). i love your selection and have so many colors that i actually enjoy getting dressed for work in the wee hours of the morning! thank you.

I'm a CA (in school for my RN) @ a Trama Hospital in a 3 state area. I love the pace & people I work with! On my floor, we have to wear burgundy or ivory. No one wears ivory, so hard to find. Rumor: we may soon be able to wear any color. That'll be a nice change. I'm ready to buy some Lydia's unifors & celebrate! One day at the library I saw a nurse I work with in regular clothes (non burgundy)& didn't recognize her! I said, "Wow, I havn't seen you in clothes before!" (oops!) She was so embarassed, but we laughed about it at work the next day! HA! I hope the requirement on my hospital floor changes allowing all scrub colors. I'm saving my money to buy new scrubs, it's exciting after looking at the selection on Lydia's Uniform site!! I always picture myself as a nurse wearing them. I'm so ready to graduate & be an RN proudly wearing Lydia's Uniforms!!! Thank you.

I am an Lpn at a small community hospital. We have no specific dress code as far as colors. But I am considerd the clothes horse of my department, and I mean that in a good way. I always try to wear bright, cheerful colors and encourage my coworkers to do so. I wear my scrubs for a while, until tired of them, then take them to work and sell them at a real bargain to coworkers. That way, everybody gets scrubs that are, "new to them" every so often. I subscribe to Lydia's email list, so as to keep the bargains coming. In 2005, I was chosen as "Patients Choice Nurse of the Year". One of the letters written in my behalt, stated, "Susie cheers the patients up with her colorful uniforms". So, please keep the beautiful uniforms coming Lydias!
