it really bothers me when my coorkers don't listen to what im saying something importnat about a patient. whining is one of my biggest pet peeves ever though

I don't like it when the scrubs are frumpy! http://www.twolia.com/shop

My pet peeve is those that don't work as a team. We are all there for the patients, so work together and pitch in. The other thing that bothers me is non-constructive criticism.

My biggest pet peeve? When myself and co-workers are trying our hardest to be "professional",and we have to cover for the UNprofesionalism of the Doc!
Friday, August 7, 2009 by Debbie:
My pet peeve: When nurses neglect their appearance, wrinkled uniforms, just got out of bed appearance. Pride in your profession, first impressions are important with your patients.

My biggest pet peeve is when co-workers (LNA's and Nurses) say that's not my resident. Aargh! It makes my blood boil. We are all there for the same reason, to care for our residents. If someone has to use the bathroom, take them. If a call light rings answer it. These residents depend on us and this is their home!!

I love to help people, but it really bugs me how some patients that can do for themselves expect you to wait on them hand and foot. And because of people like this you don't have the extra time for the patients that actually need help.

I work in a fairly small air base clinic and it really bugs me the most when I have to re-explain my stance on having too many - "oh by the ways" this is something else we have to start doing to help the such and such dept. when you go by and they are all gone by 3pm and you are still there at 5:30PM doing their respective jobs and you never hear a Thank You.
Monday, August 10, 2009 by taral:
Hospital hierarchy! It really rude to hear “because I said so”, “can you do this or that” or “not now I have things to do”, please, thank you and sorry have been extinct from most medical staff vocabulary. We are all there for one reason and one reason only, to help the ones in need, not to be masters and salves. If we care not even nice to each other, how does one dare to expect any bed side manners???

Doctor's stupidity...we cover and they get paid!!!
Tuesday, August 18, 2009 by April:
My pet peeve is when people do all their stuff that needs to be done at the end of the day when you dont have much time. It's not smart to have to do everything at the last minute. Then they are the ones needing help because at the start of the shift they fiddle farted around.

I am a Medical Assistant and I think that my biggest "pet peeve" would have to be dealing with (or fighting with) insurance companies. If a physician is ordering tests or medication for a patient the insurance company should not be allowed to dictate whether they think that the treatment or prescribed medication is medically necessary. If the physician gives a patient samples of medication that is IMPROVING their condition, but is not on the insurance formulary, it will not be covered until two FORMULARY medications have been tried and failed. Since when do the insurance companies know what is better for the patient than the physician?

i love the uniforms just don't have the money to get them right now

I am a Medical Assistant and my BIGGEST "Pet Peeve" is co-workers who do not SMILE. It costs nothing yet is so very important to the patient. A smile can really change the mood of the patient and is so simple on our part. Patients are not feeling well and can be down right grumpy. Sometimes a smile from the staff members can lighten the mood. So come on Smile a little Smile, after all it is FREE!!

My biggest pest peeve is always hearing about how the facility is over-budget. As a nurse, I'm here for the residents. Regardless of the cost, each resident still requires the amount of care they need. Short staffing units makes little sense to me when there are plenty of other ways to cut costs that wouldn't affect the residents, but it always seems management ignores those of us actually doing the work.

im in child nutrition my pet peeve is when people are not pulling together as a team to help get the job done in a matter of time, my pet peeve is when a worker come in to work and havent iron their uniform i have to be neat and clean at all time.
Sunday, August 23, 2009 by Anna:
As a nurse my biggest "pet peeve" is following someone who consistently leaves me with messes. These are the people who chart they they have flushed IV access (think central lines here) and Gtubes but the minute I come in that morning and try to use either they are clogged. Flushing either of these things take a matter of 30 seconds. Doing this a couple times a shift prevents this type of complication. So nurses, please, flush any IV access and gtube that don't have things running through them. It will make it easier for nurses following you, and don't forget the patient. No one wants to have to get a new central line at bedside because you let it clot off. Thanks.

When I see that a patient has been sent from person to person, because the first person they talked to didn't stop and listen and try to really help.
Sunday, August 23, 2009 by Happy Patel:
Doctors rudness while trying to do what's best for the patient, because they do not like to be told how to apporach the situation.
Sunday, August 23, 2009 by Geri:
my pet peeve...just lazy people...I REALLY do appreciate the STNA's and all that they have to do, but there are many times, where they all just seem to disappear!
Sunday, August 23, 2009 by Heidi:
Micro-managers! I have been nursing 20 years. I know how to do my job quite well. They hired me to do a job, now let me do it.

love your stuff

Press 1 for blah blah blah.....those insurance company telephone systems are the worst! Especially the ones you speak to. You can tell when we're talking to those, our voices get loud and we start P R O U N O U N C I N G things very properly after about five minutes with those things. They never hear you correctly, never have the choice that applies to you (1 for copay, 2 for in network physicians list,.....) I could do my job in half the time if it weren't for these systems. I've actually had them hang up on me! (pushing zero over and over doesn't always work!) Sometimes I think they make it hard hoping you'll give up and not file insurance!! Give me the options I need or let me speak to a human being!!! (remember those on the other end of the phone??)
Sunday, August 23, 2009 by stephanie:
my biggest pet peeve is when an patient comes in and they smell horrible and everyone complains about it. Well, a simple solution, give them a bath, they smell better and everyone will stop complaining
Sunday, August 23, 2009 by Jennifer:
I can't stand it when the nurse on the prior shift leaves their work for the next shift to do. When Dr writes orders at 1:00 and at when the next shift gets there at 7:00, the blood or chemo or whatever it might be, has even been started yet. Drives me crazy!! Why can't people do their job.
Sunday, August 23, 2009 by Brittany:
It drives me nuts when someone makes someone else wait for them alot longer then necessary. If the phone is ringing, pick it up now, not after you finished what you were doing (especially if what your were doing is texting your friends!). A doctor I work for likes to go through her mail before seeing patients, they wind waiting 20 minutes for her to take of something she could do at any time. It's just rude!

I hate that we have to wear a plain royal blue scub set to work. I long for creativity and independent choice.
Monday, August 24, 2009 by Jackie :
My biggest pet peeve is when the call light goes off and the pt requests something and their nurse would rather sit around and finish a conversation or something they feel is more important. Patient care people!! That's our job and should also be our passion, if you can't handle it, find a new career!!!
Monday, August 24, 2009 by Victoria:
My pet peeve? working behind perfectly component nurses who are just sorry and I end up correcting their work or lack of work.
Monday, August 24, 2009 by Diane:
I absolutely hate it when family members think their family is the only thing I have to worry about .I treat all my patients with the same respect,so when someone thinks that their family member is my only worry. If folks want to think that way, pay me a private duty rate, and then you have my sole attention!
Monday, August 24, 2009 by Mean Girl:
My pet peeve right now is employees that won't order the right size uniforms. They need Medium but they insist I order small then they end up looking ridiculous. Sometimes they split the seam in their pant and have the nerve to say the pants split because they were poor quality! Buy the right size for you, not what size you want to be!
Monday, August 24, 2009 by Donna:
My pet peeve is that I wish some patients and family members would realize that their are many other patients that also need assistance. Be patient you are not the only one here.

My pet peeve is negative people, the ones who have nothing good to say.
Monday, August 24, 2009 by Alexandria Barger:
I am a home health nurse and we have a lot of patients who are diabetics. It makes me crazy when I go to load the lancet with a new one and find the old one still in there!! Especially since many of our patients have Hepatitis!
Monday, August 24, 2009 by Jo:
Biggest pet peeve? Unprofessionalism. That includes constant complaining and sniping, being rude to patients, refusing do certain jobs because one has seniority, letting personal issues with other employees spin out of control, and creating drama that makes the workplace feel like high school. Our first and most important priority is patient care, and everything we say and do reflects on us and our facility. This is work, not a tenth grade classroom!

Why can we all just get along. The world would be a much better place. My petpeeve's. LACK of COMMUNACATION; ASSUMPTION: and BAD ETHICS
Monday, August 24, 2009 by Susan Poor:
I hate it when you get new scrubs are the sizes aren't accurate..
Monday, August 24, 2009 by lynette:
I recieved my order uniform from Lydia's the exact brand, size and style but I am dissapointed when I wore it ,its short and cut is different.I got upset....

A pet peeve I have is when u come in and the person who was on before you doesn't give you proper report on the patient, then to top things off the patient hasn't been proplerly taken care of all shift. WE R A TEAM PEOPLE, WE'RE SUPPOSED TO WORK TOGETHER NOT AGAINST EACH OTHER!!!!
Tuesday, August 25, 2009 by Shan:
I really really dislike coworkers that gossip. If it's a positive thing, tell the person. If it's not positive, keep it to yourself.

i am a pharmacy instructor at a local college. i have all these students wanting to be a CPhT, dont want to work for it, want the reward, and im 25, they r my age and act like teenage brats!! ppl need to grow up before i would want them filling my medicine. just because im young doesnt mean im stupid either. ive been in my profession for 7 years. not starting yesterday!!

My pet peeve is staff not respecting other staff members. I am a RN and worked the night shift with an LPN and ER nurses would call the floor to give report. If my LPN answered, they would say, "I need to speak to a real nurse!" I always wondered what they thought the "N" in LPN stood for. We made a joke out of it to keep from getting angry. She became a "Licensed Play Nurse" and I was the "Real Nurse." Sometimes you have to laugh at the stupid remarks!

My pet peeve is a couple of things...#1 when the phone is ringing the closest person should get it. However, that's not the case. I am a Med Tech in a busy lab having to stop what your doing in the middle of a testing procedure can cause a mistake in testing and reporting. #2 Quality Contol is a very very big thing in any Lab, not performing QC, not documenting lot #'s and dates performed. These are my PET PEEVES
Tuesday, August 25, 2009 by Lisa:
One of my biggest pet peeves is when it's a "slow" shift and the nurses and techs are all sitting around gossiping, goofing off, reading magazines, etc. I'm up and about from my desk looking for things to do, to keep busy. Usually, I can find plenty to do...so why can't they? What's worse, is when I'm swamped and they're not...there are things within a US's duties that even they are capable of doing if they'd just adopt the "keep busy" and "is there something I can do to help?" attitude!
Wednesday, August 26, 2009 by Ashley:
One of my pet peeves is dealing with co-workers who think their personal job is to be rude to every single person they come in contact with. It doesn't matter if its a patient or a co-worker. Why do people get in health care if they dont LIKE people?!! Health care is NOT just about the money!
Thursday, August 27, 2009 by Diana James:
A mother brings a child into the ER who has a fever for 3 days and has not given the child any tylenol or motrin because she didn't have the money to buy the medication. She has cigarettes in her purse and has track marks on both arms. How about wanting to be seen for nausea and vomiting while eating fritos and drinking a carbonated beverage....

My biggest pet peeve is when other co-workers don't pick up after themselves and they just leave trails of messes behind them. I'm kind of a neat freak and I like organization.

As a medical professional--I agree with all of the other statements--from having a co-worker who is lazy--to patients and families who just don't seem to understand that you have other things/people to take of----HOWEVER, my BIGGEST pet peeve is working for a female physician who HATES you because you are a people person and she is not. She gets so jealous when the patients stop and talk to you (not her) that she actually blames you for EVERYTHING that went wrong--whether you were working that day or not. That is the HARDEST, MOST STRESSFUL working environment EVER!! Like your life isn't stressful enough--you have to worry about being fired everyday; for things that YOU didn't even do.

It annoys me when patients open the window. The handle is on my side for a reason. It's also annoying when people lean in the check out window and try to talk to me when they can see that I'm at the check out window helping someone. I don't like it when people cough all over the place without covering their mouth - especially if they are leaning in the checkout window invading my personal space. I also get annoyed by people that walk in and demand to speak with the doctor - I can't interrupt him while he is in an appointment, they wouldn't like me to do that during their appointments - and the problem is usually something I am more than qualified to handle.
