The Nurturing Legacy Passed on by Mothers

Celebrating Mothers Day gives us the opportunity to tell and show our Mothers how much we appreciate them, something we might not express often enough. Thinking of how my own Mother has impacted my life in so many aspects, led me to think of how many nurses have surely been influenced by their own mothers.

The history of nursing is a long one and includes so many ways of providing care. Military nurses during war that tend to our troops, nurses in the E.R. that urgently tend to and prioritize the treatments, nurses that ensure the care of our loved ones that need assisted living, nurses that provide patient care in units of the terminally ill by making our loved ones final days easier.

The tender touch or kind words are what one remembers of a nurse. All of this history is filled with generations of many brave, empathetic, giving and caring individuals who have chosen the career of nursing. Some continuing a legacy started by a family member, often times a Mother. Did your own Mother influence your decision to join the nursing field? Tell us your story.
