Katelyn - The 100% Cotton Born Grumpy Scoop Neck Scrub Tooniforms Top by Cherokee is my favorite Summer 2012 item. First off, who doesn’t love the Carebears? The fact that they put Grumpy Bear on a bright fun summer colored shirt makes it even better. I also love that this top has an adjustable drawstring at the waist and the ruffle trim around the neckline gives the top a nice classy look.

As you may know, February is American Heart Month. Why is this important? Because heart disease kills more men and women than any other cause, including cancer. Even breast cancer.
The thing is, we often overlook risk factors for heart disease and we do things that are not really nice to our hearts. As busy professionals, nurses often do things like eat foods that are not healthy but convenient. We don't always have the time to exercise, and sometimes we feel to exhausted to even think about it. Even though we know better, some of us smoke, or drink more alcohol than we should. And probably almost all of us are living with high stress levels that we are ignoring. I know I am no picture of health. Up until the last few months I ate fast food...a lot. About the only workout I get is when I go up and down the stairs in my house. And Lord knows I have a lot of stress eating away at me. And the thing that makes it even worse is that I have a family history of heart disease.
So what do we do to protect ourselves from this nasty killer of women and men? Eat right by getting at least 9 servings of fruits and veggies a day. Limit your red meat and unhealthy fats, choosing healthy mono- and polyunsaturated fats. Exercise at least 30 minutes a day on most days of the week. Quit smoking if you currently are doing so. Limit your alcohol intake to 1 drink per day or less...although red wine does seem to have some protective heart benefits. And this will be the hard one. Learn to de-stress. My doctor is on me all the time about that one. He's even recommended I try something called HeartMath-although I am sure there are similar programs that work just as well. Even a few minutes a day of meditation or guided imagery may help.
Secondly, arm yourself with knowledge of the symptoms of a heart attack, and know when to seek medical attention for any health concerns. Heart attack symptoms are different in women than men, you can check out this website at the American Heart Association to learn more about them.
So this February, don't forget to wear your red scrubs in honor of Heart Awareness month. Although the National Go Red For Women day has passed, that still doesn't mean we can't raise knowledge of the problem. And love your heart-it's the only one you've got!

Melissa: My favorite new line is
ScrubNuts. I am a huge fan/supporter of non-profits and the profits of ScrubNuts go to the Gesundheit! Institute, a project founded by Dr. Hunter "Patch" Adams. The Institute states it IS dedicated to bringing generosity and compassion to the health care industry. One of their continued missions involves the concept of "humanitarian clowning". The project uses the theme of laughter as an integral element of effective doctoral care. So in line with that each ScrubNuts purchase includes a free clown nose!
Lindsey: My favorite new item for Fall is the
Wink 4-Stretch Women's Performance Lab Coat. I like how the style is more form fitting than most lab coats and has princess seaming for a flattering fit. Also the pocket with the ID loop is an added bonus to keep you organized!
Liza: The
Barco Zip Front Dress has to be at the top of my list because it's so versatile! When worn by itself it's a classic nursing dress, but with modern details. And when worn over scrubs it's the perfect lab coat with its stylish fit and roomy pockets.
Leesa: Because I am a fleece addict, this
scrub jacket caught my eye right away. I love how it matches perfectly with the Peaches Med Couture scrubs. Its hard to find a snugly fleece that keeps the professional look like this one.

Stylish and practical!
This jacket is fantastic! Wish the pics showed more detail...there is the cutest hot pink and orange urbane print inside the neckline and pockets. It's slimming and comfortable. I'm an RN in an ICU and like that this is professional yet fresh and so practical! I always push up my sleeves (can't stand them around my wrists, plus they can get dirty) so the soft, hidden stockinette allows me to easily push up my sleeves and they stay in place! The pockets are large and deep...this is just all around wonderful! For reference: I'm 5'6" 115lbs and XS fits great (runs true to size...not large like some urbane scrub items).

Q. I am 5"10 and always have trouble finding scrubs that are long enough. I need a scrub pant that has a 34" or longer inseam. Can you recommend one for me?
