For our first post in our new “A Day in a Life” series featuring real nurses just like you, we’d like to introduce you to Erika Shore.

Erika is a labor and delivery nurse in Atlanta, Georgia but, for her, nursing isn’t just a job – it’s a calling. She believes she was born a caregiver and says that caring for others is “in my blood, personality and every way I’m made.” By the time she was in high school, she just knew she wanted to help people. We bet many of you can relate!

Like Mother, Like Daughter

Erika says she gets a lot of her caregiving traits from her mom. One of the things that influenced her to be a nurse was the joy she and her mom experienced from taking care of foster care babies. When the time came for her to start looking at colleges and she needed to figure out what she wanted to do with her life, labor and delivery was the natural choice.

She’s truly passionate about nursing and is grateful that she’s been able to use the skills she’s learned and developed as a nurse to also take care of her grandparents. She knows what to look for as they age and as they’re sick and is able to contribute to help take care of them.

Always a Nurse

To Erika, the best part about being a nurse is “really feeling like every day – even if it’s what someone would call a boring day – I’m making a difference.” While she feels that her scrubs are like her second skin and it’s the uniform she wears every day to work, when she comes home at the end of the day and the scrubs come off, she’s still a nurse.
